Safety worries have returned to South Korea, the world's top supplier of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, following a large data center fire there that for many days interrupted a number of essential digital services, including banking, car sharing, and online deliveries. The catastrophe has also rekindled safety worries in the nation, a provider of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles on a global scale.
"The safety of lithium-ion batteries has reappeared and the government needs to interfere to prevent such incidents," said Professor Lee Ho-Guyen of the Department of Automotive Engineering at DaeDuk University. "The batteries are frequently subjected to intolerable shocks when they fail."
