The development of New Zealand's largest proposed battery energy storage system (BESS) has been approved.
Meridian Energy, a generator and retailer situated in Rukk, North Island, New Zealand, is developing the 100MW battery energy storage project. The location is near the historic Marsden Point oil plant.
Meridian expects BESS to be operational by 2024. Helen Knott, the company's head of renewable energy development, stated that the assistance it would offer to the grid will lessen supply and demand variations, resulting in cheaper electricity rates.
