A new method for stabilizing the lithium-metal electrodes and electrolyte in lithium-metal batteries has been found by researchers at the University of Tokyo and Nagoya Institute of Technology.
According to a study that was published in the journal Nature Energy, this novel process, which deviates from traditional kinetic theories, has the potential to considerably raise the battery's energy density—that is, the quantity or volume of energy stored in relation to its weight.
Scientists have created functional electrolytes and electrolyte additives that produce protective surface layers to solve this issue. However, the relationship between the solid electrolyte interface and coulombic efficiency has not yet been thoroughly grasped by scientists.
